Le Baron d'Ardeuil is a famous red wine from Les Vignerons de Buzet. It is aromatic and well structured
One of the closest companions of Joan of Arc was the valiant Poton de Xaintrailles whose castle with its picturesque towers overlooks the Buzet terroirs. One of his young vassals, called Ardeuil or so-nicknamed for his ardour in attack, fought beside him. As a reward, Poton dubbed him Baron of Ardeuil. So this name was naturally given to one of the gems in the Buzet collection.
Baron d'Ardeuil grows on vines rooted deeply in gravel and clayey limestone soils in the finest terroirs of the appellation. The grapes are harvested when fully ripe and after stringent selection right up until the day before. Vinification is controlled to extract the finest tannins and maturing in oak barrels (60% of the volume) gives this premium wine its outstanding elegance. The deep garnet red of the wine foretells refinement in the tasting. First a pleasure for the nose with notes of very ripe black fruit, highlighted by a touch of toast and vanilla. The Baron d'Ardeuil reveals its true aristocracy in the mouth when sensuality comes in the wake of a powerful start highlighted by delicately coated tannins.
